We’re thrilled to embark on an exciting new chapter as we announce the appointment of Gina Dempster as Wastebusters’ new General Manager. Gina, a dedicated advocate for zero waste, brings a wealth of experience to the role and is well-known for her contributions to our community.
Gina’s journey with Wastebusters began in 2007, where she played a pivotal role as Communications Manager, to establish Wastebusters as a local and national leader in the zero waste environment. Her commitment and passion for our values have only grown stronger over the years. Recently serving as Resource Recovery manager, Gina has expanded her expertise across our reuse and recycling operations, solidifying her as the perfect fit for the role of General Manager.
“I’m really excited about stepping into the General Manager role,” Gina said. “Wastebusters was set up by our community 23 years ago and remains a well-loved treasure and environmental leader. I’m following in the giant footsteps of all the leaders who have taken Wastebusters to the nationally recognised zero waste hub that it is today.”
Gina is not just a leader within Wastebusters; she is deeply connected to our community. She serves on the board of Lake Wānaka Tourism, is a founding member of Plastic Free Wānaka, and acts as a strategic communications advisor for the Zero Waste Network Aotearoa.
“At the heart of Wastebusters are the people, and we’ve got so many great people in the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle teams. I feel we’re in a great place to take Wastebusters to the next level as a circular economy hub which can help change the way we use resources.”
We bid a fond farewell to our outgoing General Manager, Tony Pfeiffer, who, during his tenure, successfully navigated Wastebusters through various challenges, including the recent Covid-19 Pandemic. Tony leaves behind a legacy of progress and positive change.
As Wastebusters look to the future, we express our gratitude to Tony and eagerly anticipate the leadership Gina will bring to our organisation. The Board is confident that Gina’s extensive experience, networks and dedication will ensure a smooth transition and contribute to Wastebusters’ ongoing success in leading the way to zero waste.
