After a successful four month trial, Wastebusters will continue to collect Tetra Pak and similar liquid paperboard cartons from businesses, and at our recycling depots in Wānaka and Alexandra.

From cartons to construction material: Wastebusters will continue to collect Tetra Pak and similar liquid paperboard cartons for recycling.
We can accept both long-life cartons (e.g. oat milk, soy milk, juice) and chilled cartons (e.g buttermilk).
To recycle Tetra Pak, please remove the lids and give them a rinse, as mouldy containers will not be accepted by the reprocessor. If you can, please also cut along the top and side so the carton is recycled open and flat.
Tetra Pak, like a lot of the materials we collect here at Wastebusters, will be recycled onshore, in Aotearoa New Zealand. We send it to Hamilton, where it’s made into Saveboard, a construction material for ceilings, internal walls and roofing substrate.
You can only recycle your Tetra Paks/liquid cartons through Wastebusters’ business collections (pop them in with their mixed plastics recycling) and at Wastebusters’ recycling centre drop-offs in Wānaka and Alexandra.
Tetra Pak/liquid cartons can NOT be recycled in your kerbside recycling bins.
