DSC_9277Plastic Free July is a chance to challenge yourself to give up single use plastic. There’s no such thing as failing – only learning – so don’t be afraid to have a go. You can sign up at thePlastic Free July website. If you’re new to avoiding single use plastic, you can start with the Big Four: plastic bags, plastic bottles, straws and take-away coffee cups (yes they’re lined with plastic).

Some people have found it hard to break the habit of taking plastic bags because they use them to line their rubbish bin. If you compost your food waste, it’s fine to put your rubbish straight into the bin without a lining, just wash it when you empty it. if you put food waste in your kitchen bin, it’s more likely to smell and be damp, so you can use a newspaper liner instead.
