The winner of the $100 recycling voucher for completing our survey was Altamont Lodge, congratulations to Rod and Noelene shown here getting the voucher from Marilyn. We were stoked to hear that 81% of businesses rated our staff as excellent. The main area highlighted to improve on was “getting in touch”. We’ve been working on our phone systems, but businesses can also arrange a pick-up by email.

We always respond to pick-up requests (by phone or email) as quickly as possible. If we’re not flat out and we’re in the right area, we may be able to slot it into our schedule that day. If we’re busy, we’ll put Wanaka businesses on the schedule for the following day. Luggate and Hawea businesses are picked up on Thursdays, Cardrona businesses on Wednesdays.

Wanaka businesses are committed to recycling – almost half of our customers have been recycling with us for more than five years! Cardboard is the material most commonly recycled by businesses, followed closely by paper and then glass.
Not everyone knew about all the materials that they could recycle with us, and that’s not surprising because there are so many of them. The two which most confused our customers are plastic film/shrink wrap and polystyrene. Yes, we do pick up clear and coloured plastic film (usually labelled with plastic identification code 4) and white expanded polystyrene for recycling.
We have a free pick up service for used vegetable oil which is made into biodiesel. We can also recycle all electronic equipment like TVs and computers, there is a charge to cover costs.
