At Wastebusters we are always wondering how we can use our skills, talents and resources to look after our place, and maintain quality of life for people that live here.

The new Shaping the Future forums aim to do the same thing. The best thing you can do this year is make time to play your part in these forums. Make sure your version of reality has a voice at the table.

Events workshop: Thursday 19th May at Edgewater Resort from 4-6pm.

Some people have been saying OMG (oh my god) another talk fest, we just need to get on and do something. To be successful we need both talk and action.

So many of us have come to Wanaka in the last 15 years.

We don’t know much about each other.

We don’t know what each other needs and wants.

We don’t know what skills, talents and resources we all have to contribute.

Our first step is making these things known to one another so we can get a sense of our common ground and build a clear picture of the goals we share.

Einstein once said that if he had 60 minutes to solve a problem, he would spend the first 55 figuring out the right question to ask. Once he had done that, finding the answer was easy.

The forums are all about finding the right questions to ask and using these to  come up with answers that are a good fit for us and our place.

The first Shaping the Future forum focuses on ‘Our Economic future’.

That involves a whole lot more than’ business’. How are we going to make our livings? How do we build a strong and diverse social economy? How do we get money flowing through more hands in our communities before we send it off to the australian banks?

The best thing you can do this year is make time to play your part in these forums.

Make sure your version of reality has a voice at the table.

Active citizenship goes way beyond voting for someone else to ‘do it for you’ for the next 3 years.

As Vivian Hutchinson pointed out at the latest community economic development conference;

“If you are alive and on this planet, it’s your turn.”
